Get the best. Always pay the least.

Adding content to your

email campaign for maximum effect.

You can do a really fine job of contacting people by email right from your current email provider, or you can utilize a service designed primarily for that purpose. Either way, it's a useful and rewarding method of contacting a wide variety of potential customers without spending a lot of money. Read on.

There are places that will give you a free account, such as MailChimp, with all the tools necessary to launch a first rate email campaign. It takes a bit of mastering, but they provide videos, webinars and all the tutorials necessary to get the the job done right.  If you’re a fast learner you can have a functional, slick looking, compliant campaign going full blast in short order. It’s a service that I have used for a long time and find very user-friendly and reliable. It will duplicate your message on Twitter and Facebook if you so desire, with many more features that you might want to investigate on your own.

I must confess however, that as a graphic artist, it took me a long time to master the art of doing it just right. And just like everything else, if you’re away from it for a short time it takes some relearning to get back up to speed. But it is a wonderful service and I do highly recommend it.

Having said all that, if you’re not graphically inclined and you’re fussy about the presentation you make in your emails, you might want to hire someone like me to create your graphics and set up your email broadcasts on a regular basis. Since the service itself is free, you’d only have to pay for the artist’s time and talent. It’s one of those times where you’ll be getting more bang for your buck and competing on a professional level with big business for a virtual outlay of peanuts.

The actual content of your emails is one that will take some

time to develop and should be well thought out. It takes awhile to get your recipiency list together so don’t waste a single name or opportunity. Someone who opts to press that “unsubscribe” button at the bottom of your email message is gone forever, automatically being removed from your original list. Hold the reader’s interest by trying to anticipate what the majority of your audience really wants and needs. You can’t please everyone, but knowing what part of your “inventory” has attracted most people to your business in the past will make it easier when constructing your message waiting for them to open. Don’t let the content of your subject line get you automatically identified as spam before it ever reaches your recipient’s inbox. If you’re just starting out, you might want to consult with an experienced copy writer (like me) who knows how to draw people in and keep them there. This could prove to be the most important decision in your campaign and an expense well worth the return it can bring.

In much the same way you convinced people to offer up their email information is the same way you’ll get them to respond positively to your message. Give them something real that they want, give them some value they cannot pass up, give them something that in this current economic downturn translates into a great deal. Consider all this when you send out your message and you’ll be on the way to the success of your email program.
